All the cork we recycle is 100% natural. It can follow two different journeys, but ends up in the same place: part of a material we believe can change the world.
All cork starts its journey as the bark of the cork oak tree. That bark is harvested by hand and the finest quality bark is selected to be used for manufacturing wine stoppers.
Wine stoppers are punched from the bark in cylinders. Leftover cork trimmings are collected. This high-quality material is too good to go to waste!
We purchase leftover trimmings from wine industry partners, directly supporting the cork industry in the process.
These trimmings are ground down to be added to our recycling batch, forming the post-industrial portion of our recycling stream.
Wine corks find their way to restaurants, bars and kitchens across North America where they’re collected by people like you.
Our network of ReCORK Collection Partners ship collected natural corks directly to us, and we grind them down to add to our recycling batch. These corks form the post-consumer portion of our recycling stream.
Once ground, both post-consumer and post-industrial cork are re-agglomerated in our patented technique to create ReCORK Recycled Cork. This new material is used to replace petroleum based foams and plastics in consumer products, and can be collected and recycled again!
